Summary
The Haunting Of Bly Manor is a series that delves into the realm of psychological horror rather than relying solely on disturbing scenes of violent ghosts seeking vengeance. The narrative unfolds in a non-linear manner, creating a gradual sense of dread throughout. Flashbacks, layered with even more flashbacks, take us back to the origin story of the Haunting in the Seventeenth Century. The characters experience haunting dreams when possessed by ghosts or even when they exist as ghosts themselves, trapped in recursive memories akin to timeslips or time-loops. The show presents a Gothic drama, though it may feel a bit slow at times, and some viewers may think it could have been condensed by one episode. Nevertheless, it stands as an impressive and commendable adaptation of "The Turn Of The Screw" for the screen. The series is overseen by Mike Flanagan, who both directs and writes the first episode.
