Summary
"The Descent," a nightmare-inducing horror film, is a true masterpiece from the brilliant Geordie writer-director, Neil Marshall. Much like his previous work, "Dog Soldiers," this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat and is not for the faint of heart. The story follows a group of six adventurous and attractive women as they embark on a potholing adventure in the Appalachian mountains. However, their thrilling journey takes a dark and terrifying turn, leaving them in a dire situation with uncertain chances of survival or seeing daylight again. Drawing parallels to Marshall's earlier work, "Soldiers," the film impresses with its stark and economically told narrative. The group of six individuals, mostly of one gender, faces a lurking and ominous threat, with clever nods to popular film culture sprinkled throughout. Yet, what sets "The Descent" apart is its skillful infusion of pitch-black humor.
