Summary
This film is a true masterpiece, skillfully blending deep disturbance, emotional impact, dark comedy, and intellectual stimulation, all achieved by a young director with just a few short films under their belt. "Grace" immerses the audience in an indescribably eerie atmosphere, with uniquely drawn and believable characters, and a concept that, though logically implausible, is profoundly unsettling. When I saw this movie at the Belgian Fantasy Festival, the announcer wisely suggested that couples with young children and pregnant women should consider leaving the theater, given the array of horrifying aspects related to motherhood covered in this instant gem. From difficult conception to intrusive in-laws, from unconventional delivery methods to the loss of a husband, and the most harrowing of all, a stillborn baby.
