Summary
The Evil Dead movies have always had straightforward plots, but this one feels even simpler than usual. It revolves around a family trapped in a building, stalked by deadites. Sadly, the film lacks creativity and fails to leave a lasting impression. There's a glaring absence of tension and fear, making it apparent that the wrong person was at the helm. It seems the creators missed the mark on what makes a good horror movie, and their handling of an Evil Dead installment is disappointing. Rather than living up to the atmospheric and tonal brilliance of the original Evil Dead movies, this entry falls short. While the 2013 movie was a solid piece, Evil Dead Rise disappoints, with only a few moments of impressive gory effects. It feels like a tedious and lackluster affair. Many modern productions suffer from the same issue: technically proficient but lacking in pacing, story, and genuine soul. If you manage to lower your expectations significantly, you might consider giving Evil Dead Rise a chance. It won't evoke either joy or boredom to an extreme degree, making it just somewhat okay u2013 a disheartening statement for an Evil Dead movie.
