Summary
This film possesses a familiar essence, revolving around overarching themes and thrills. However, it stands tall as an exceptional creature story in its own right. What adds intrigue to the experience is the director, Scott Cooper, infusing his trademark bleakness into the visuals, perfectly complementing the dark and grim ambiance required for this film. The performances are commendable, with Keri Russell effectively carrying the weight of intensity. One remarkable aspect worth praising is the balanced portrayal of the creatureu2014much like in "A Quiet Place" and its sequelu2014where we're not left yearning for fleeting glimpses. Unlike some creature features that withhold the creature entirely, this film strikes the right balance, reminiscent of the films from the 80s and 90s. Overall, it's a well-executed movie, and it's no surprise that Del Toro sought to be involved in its production.
